Things Organized Neatly

Totally up my alley. And yours too, very probably.

DBA Co.

I once dreamed of such a thing: beautiful, elegant and thoughtful products, sold only online. DBA are starting off with a biodegradable pen and and endless notebook, but it looks like a humidifier, heater, dishrack and extension cord are in the works.

Ditte Isager

Dutch photographer, now working in NY. Love the way she works with light. As natural and delicate as possible, there’s something pure about it.

New Simplicity

An exhibit celebrating the ordinary by showcasing objects “that are simple, practical and affordable yet visually striking”. This ties in to the trend of and the likes, showcasing the beauty in everyday humble objects. But remember: simple design isn’t simplistic design. They’re probably on opposite ends of the spectrum. My kind of stuff, really, with elegant works from Oscar Diaz, Industrial Facility and Jasper Morrison.

In-between architecture

For Patrick E. and his students, who regularly reproduces famous bedrooms (or bedrooms of famous architects) at 1:1 scale: Studio Mumbai Architecture presents at the V&A a reproduction of a dwelling “that is crammed into narrow urban allotments” commonly found inside Mumbai city’s grid of buildings. In the video they say these spaces represent 50% of Mumbai’s city dwellings, which basically means every in-between space between buildings in the city is somehow inhabited:

While quite tiny, the original structure houses a family of eight. Though seen as parasitic, these homes offer intelligent design solutions in a city where space is scarce. Like its neighbouring sculptures, ‘in-between architecture’ is a cast of the space in mumbai.

Moulding urban space! The negatives of our daily living spaces!
