Milton Glaser: Ten Things I Have Learned •
Part of his 2001 AIGA Talk (London). The kind of wisdom that sounds even wiser with age. Or maybe everything always does? Anyways, I love this:Being a child of modernism I have heard this mantra all my life. Less is more. One morning upon awakening I realised that it was total nonsense, it is an absurd proposition and also fairly meaningless. [...] However, I have an alternative to the proposition that I believe is more appropriate. ‘Just enough is more.’
10 Tips for International Relocation •
Jan Chipchase (emphasis mine):
2. International relocation is the ultimate excuse to have a brutal clear-out. Give away, sell or recycle everything that that you haven’t used or appreciated in the past year. Sure the odd item that didn’t make the cut will be missed – but this is easily outweighed by the pleasure of finding a new home for things and the psychological pleasure of letting go. In fact I’d go one step further and argue that the practical/emotional jolt that comes from ‘missing’ something helps reinforce its value, which in turn shapes future actions/consumption. Missing things is a Good Thing.
Right up my alley.

Best link this week as “The Story Gets Deeper”: HBOvoyeur. Be ready to want to see everything. How would one call this kind of production? Wikipedia calls it a theatrical multimedia experience and marketing campaign spreading over “the main website, HBO On Demand and HBO Mobile exclusive content, MySpace pages for the characters from the stories, supporting websites, and additional content for those willing to follow the “breadcrumbs” hidden in the other media”. •
Onesentence.org is true stories told in one sentence. If I meet somebody who has been working on a project for some time and I feel they are kind of sick of telling people about it (and thus don’t really feel like getting into explaining the whole thing) I always ask them to simply explain it in one sentence, no more. Challenging them to a concise yet full and direct explanation always seem to get them started and interested in talking about it. •
