The music video for Symphonies, Dan Black’s new single, recycling title sequences from famous movies, a bit like what Justice did with DVNO. Can anyone name any of these movies references? I spot some Goldfinger, Catch Me if You Can, Sin City… but other are stuck on the tip of my tongue, just can’t seem to figure them out. Some Hitchcock? •
Two things to watch one after the other: firstly, the ingenious and beautiful music video for Moray McLaren’s We got Time1; then stay seated and watch its making of, surely the most comprehensible and entertaining yet, the director walks us throught the whole creative and technical process explaining very clearly, how and why it was carried out this way. It’s quite nice to realize that no, not everything is rendered with computers these days, especially animation.

Sur une note plus légère: je suis content que Vlad, figure cruelle et historique d’Europe de l’Est, après maintes années de crocs et de cous de jeunes dames bien blêmes sous les spots des studios californiens, ait finalement retrouvé son appétit pour l‘épieu et le carnage grotesque, une activité qu’il faisait si bien avant que Stoker le gentrifie beaucoup trop.
•A few videos worth checkin out to grove your weekend off-beat. Je me passerai de Sebastien, mais la fin de Kilometer est nice; Spooky Signs de Bloc Party remixé par Armand Van Helden; et comme Francis disait, le nom du fortifiant du dessous de la ceinture Cialis a probablement été inspiré de Ciara. Ou c’est le contraire, j’m‘en souviens plus. •

The finalists of this year’s best Antville Music Video Awards, as stated by the very democratic antville web community. Best video goes to Encyclopedia Pictura’s beautifully crafted Bjork – Wonderlust shot in stereoscopic 3d (more technical info about the clip here, and here). The Antville selection has more credibility than the crap nominated at the MMVA. •

My jaw dropped when I saw Beyonce’s lastest: Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) music video, directed by Jake Nava. The music, the choreography, the dancing, the music is all top notch. Joanie, attention, ça va peut-être te faire dancer sur ton bureau. •

Un mix de Minogue, Kelis et Pink: c’est de la pop très très bien ajusté, le vidéo aussi. Avec des images et un montage semblant de Last Night’s Party, tourné par une greco-américaine prénomée Melina. •
Alphabeat’s What is happening music video, directed by Toben Seymour.. Could have easily been quirky & cheezy, but it’s not: smart and happy sounding, smarty and happy looking. •

Remember the Nude Remix project by Radiohead? James Houston gave it a try, gathering old obsolete computer hardware, and getting them to make sounds, then mixing them to make music. Best of all, he even made a video for it. I suggest you also read his explanation next to the video, it explains the 6/8 versus 4/4 conundrum, and the resulting DJs versus Thom York skirmish. •
I love good music videos. Best two arts working together, much of the time inviting others to play. Lykke Li I’m Good, I’m Gone. Song’s good no? How about a live version with guests: Robyn, Adam & Bebban (Shout Out Louds), Daniel (The Concretes), Lars (Laakso) and Mikael (Hjalmar). •
Nouveau vidéo de Justice: Stress (youtube). La réalisation et le montage sont superbes, la trame sonore y joue son rôle parfaitement, le tout est d’un réalisme apeurant. On le compare immédiatement à La Haine, A Clockwork Orange et Man bites Dog. C’est évidemment provocant, la destruction et la violence gratuite le sont toujours, c’est une avenue envisageable facile. Mais peux t’on avoir autant d’impact instantané à l’inverse, en montrant quelque chose de positif et constructif? Une interprétation du clip est nécessaire et les discussions sont intéressantes. L’association d’images et de musique reste un médium très fort, c’est émotivement entraînant. Un sujet cru et choquant, un traitement réaliste et engageant, une trame sonore connue et désirée, mêles à ça quelques logos (icône déjà bien impudente) et t’as la recette d’une pub parfaite. Même moi je veux faire partie de la bande. J’en veux un manteau comme ça, j’veux aller péter des gueules. •

Hot, slick n’ sexy: Justice’s latest clip DVNO pimped out pretty much all the 80s logos and typography clichés. I love how they tweaked the song to amplify the images; it also implies the musicians actually have a say in all of this. By the way, à moins que t’hibernes depuis Décembre, tu sais déjà que Justice sera à Montreal le 16 mars prochain. •

American math rock band Battles collaborated with United Visual Artists for their Tonto video. The result is something I would like to see live. Music, photography and design makes Eric drool boy oh boy. Obviously not unlike UVA’s Volume installation at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. •

Grip Music Video for dutch band zZz “is a one take, top shot videoclip with professional trampoline gymnasts simulating typical video effects.” Love that beachball. •
