During the First and Second world war, the Allied forces navies were painting their ships to mislead and confuse the enemy. Though instead of the usual jungle camo, it was dazzle camouflage, stripes and geometric shapes aiming to disrupt the boat’s silhouette making it difficult to understand which direction the ship was going and at what speed. RISD is currently holding a dazzle camouflage exhibit.
